About Us

What is Loving God?

•The initial step in the discipleship process is to Love God. Jesus said, “love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your mind, with all your soul & with all your strength.” Mark 12:30
•Every ministry, from children through adult, finds its basis in Loving God. Sunday morning gatherings are the entry point for people to learn to Love God. We focus on Him & His word in the teaching & celebration.
•We invite all to come & learn to Love the Lord with all that we are & to express it in worship.
•Our love for God is based upon His love for us. 1 John 4:19 “We love because He first loved us.” This is also our foundation for Loving Others.

What is Loving Others?

•Loving others is the second step in the ministry process at Mount Comfort. We believe that Loving God will lead to an expression of Loving Others. The early church “devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching & to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread & to prayer.” Acts 2:42
•This is seen in small groups of children, youth, men & women meeting for Bible study & encouragement. Our primary tool for this stage is Life Groups.
•Life Groups exist to Connect people in community to build meaningful relationships. These groups also Care for each other & provide the personal touch we all need to get through life’s challenges. Life Groups also Challenge each other to live more fully devoted to Jesus & His way. This includes Reaching the World.

What is Reaching the World?

•Reaching the World is the 3rd step in our ministry process at Mount Comfort. After rising from the dead Jesus gave this charge, “Make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father & the Son & the Holy Spirit, & teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Matthew 28:19, 20. He also said, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; & you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem & in all Judea & Samaria, & to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8
•Most people begin with Loving God & take the second step by Loving Others in a Life Group. The hope is that everyone would complete the process by Reaching the World. For Jesus Himself came to serve & not be served. “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve & to give His life a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45. We accomplish Reaching the World by providing opportunities to show the love & hope of Jesus Christ to a broken & hurting world. We do so by serving locally, regionally & finally Worldwide.

Our History

Mount Comfort Church, Inc. (non-denominational), one of the oldest in Greene County, Missouri, was first organized in the year 1834 in a brush arbor as a Cumberland Presbyterian congregation. There were 21 charter members.

The new church group met regularly once each month in the homes of the members until the erection of a log church edifice in 1837. A new frame church was built in 1858, and the present church sanctuary was erected in 1925.

Prosperity, growth & God's blessings were enjoyed by the Mount Comfort Church as a part of the Cumberland Presbyterian denomination until 1954, at which time the membership of the church voted to become independent of that denomination.

Reasons given for this separation were the liberal doctrinal position & the pro-Communist policies of the National & World Councils of Churches, with which movements the Cumberland Presbyterian denomination had become affiliated.

The Mount Comfort Church, Inc. is now non-denominational, fundamental in doctrine, pre-millennial in hope, evangelistic & missionary in emphasis & takes a firm stand for the "Faith once delivered unto the saints." The heritage of strong biblical teaching & doctrinal purity is the strength of Mount Comfort Church. This core strength serves as the basis for the future of truth of Scripture will be essential to growth in faith, hope & love. Such strength will carry Mount Comfort Church to the next level in development of Mount Comfort as a community & cultural influence in Northern Greene County.

Together, those who gather at Mount Comfort desire to spread beauty in a dark world by: living faith, hope & love in every aspect of life &in every part of the world; reflecting the beauty of our head, the Lord Jesus Christ.
